diRtFactor can now be found with a ton of the other dirt mods at our new site
www.SimWizards.com (as well as many paved ones too for a lot of racing sims). diRtFactor currently has late models and limited late models with varying rules packages that you can preset at the server level. In development are the new modifieds which will have UMP, IMCA, USMTS and custom rules packages. Also in early stages of development are the DIRT prostocks which will have the prefab prostock bodies instead of the old classics like you see in DTR games. Possibly to be added to that one or as a separate mod will be a Street Stock/Pure Stock mod. Those will have a ton of options to create rules packages to mirror your local events. On hold but still with some things done to them are the DIRT modifieds with BB, 358's and Sportsmans all available once they get done. Sprints are also technically started but VERY far from being done. The last two I mentioned should not really be counted on at the current time because there is no work currently being done to those.
There are some Street Stocks out right now that we have on the site called Kentucky Street Stocks. They are a beta version but very functional and fun even as a beta. They are limited however to only one body style at the current time (Monte Carlo). They chose that because it is the most common body style in use for that division country wide.
SBS has their modifieds out right now as well as their sprints and late models. The sprints are my favorite of those. 321 Development which is now being run by a different group has a late model that is very different from the DF or SBS one. It reminds me more of the old wedge nose ones. They also have a modified and a sprint car. The only one I wasnt a real fan of was the modified because at least in my opinion the body size is out of scale (too big) compared to the other cars and the tracks. (btw, thats the big block mods)
HAR has the bombers which is a street stock type class, and their late models based on the SUPR series (dont know much about the real series except they are based in the south and have a much bigger spoiler). They too have some other things in the works.
KDSR has numerous mods as well based on divisions from NZ. I will be honest with the work on the new site, I have not made my way to their site in a while to catch up on what they have or what is in the works. Check them out for sure. I have not added them to our showcase section yet, still waiting to hear back from Rikstr on some things.
As far as tracks go for each, at one time they were not real compatible with each other. Most of the groups have gotten to the point where the mods do work on most of the tracks. Some groups are doing the tracks for both on and offline racing others are focusing for online only. Most are noted to show this. Many of the groups have or are releasing updated versions of many tracks because of how much has been learned in the last year. Speed Sports Software (the diRtFactor group) is rereleasing almost all of their tracks in the coming few weeks. Some for racing reasons like adding more grooves, etc. Others are to improve computer performance so we could keep the quality but allow for slower machines to handle them at higher frame rates.
Like I said, stop by the new site. It is still a work in progress its self, but you will get a lot of answers there. I am actually working on a huge HELP/FAQ section that is based off of forum threads from our old site. So between that and the actual forum, you should get what you need in the way of info.
Check out the development team SHOWCASE sections. If you are running Fire Fox, look at the icons for all the teams on the front page and click on one. This is a full section of the site that is dedicated to each of the games or development teams listed. In here they can update their tracks, mods, and other info. There are also direct links to their photo galleries, forums, etc.
As far as installing, pretty much everything is self install.
Setups, yes you can use fixed sets but most people hate this feature on dirt from what I have seen in conversations. I could see it in a street stock type league but thats it. There are too many variables in the different types of chassis, lines at the track and driving styles compared to a paved race.
So, once you get into racing this, can I expect to see you out building tracks once again? It is SOOOOO much better than what we knew in the DTR/SC/2 era.
Come check out the servers while you are there too. We have some up for the DF lates and limited lates. There is also one running with the KY Street Stocks with others coming soon.
Sorry for the book long reply but I hope it helps.
